STREET 0 TRURO CITY 2
IN what turned out to be a disappointing performance away to Street in the Toolstation Western League, to play below par and still come away with three points is generally the sign better things to come.
City started well enough, but efforts on goal were few and far between from both sides until the 20th minute when a shot came of the outside of City's post although goalkeeper Jason Chapman appeared to have it covered.
Within two minutes City thought they were ahead but as Tolley converted from a Gosling free kick the assistant referee ruled it out for offside. It wasn't until the last minute of the half that the deadlock was broken when skipper Tom Smith scored with a bullet-like header.
It should have been two within a couple minutes of the second half but Street' 'keeper pulled off a tremendous point-blank save from Marcus Martin's header.
The half was to be Street's and would have scored but for a double save from Chapman and Ash clearing the ball off the line.
The second half ended like the first when from a long ball substitute Chris Reski, with his pace, lost his marker and then he drew the 'keeper and placed the ball into the far corner of the ne to seal victory.
To sum up Truro's performance ahead of their FA Cup home game against Bath City on Saturday, although they collected all three points there appeared to be a lack of commitment and passion on the day.
City: J. Chapman, J. Ash, Tom Smith, Danny Harris, Graeme Power, Marcus Martin, Mark Vercesi, Kevin Wills,Ian Gosling, Shane Tolley 7, Stewart Yetton. Subs: Chris Reski, Scott Walker, Joe Broad.
WEBBY'S CORNER On Monday night City entertained Plymouth Argyle in a friendly and drew 1-1.
Truro City will be the first Cornish club to train their match-day stewards for a NVQ Level 2 stewarding course which will start on Saturday, October 6, at home to Hallen in the league. It demonstrates that to become a professional club it is not all about players, you also need all the back room staff to be qualified to a high standard. Without these unsung heroes clubs would not survive and here at Truro City we have a great team off the pitch as well on it and I would like to thank them for what they do at this club every week.
As for Saturday it's FA Cup day when we entertain Bath City from the Blue Square Conference South in the second qualifing round.
This is a huge tie for City against a club with a real FA Cup pedigree and currently lie in third place in their league with one defeat in ten games. It's also nice to have a home draw against a side of Bath City's calibre.
Graeme Power might have expected to play against his former club, but suffered an ankle injury against Plymouth Argyle.
This will be a huge test for us, but I'm sure Bath won't relish making the long trip to Cornwall in front of a possible crowd of 2,000 Cornish fans, so don't miss the tie of the round."
