OVER 70 people dived into the sea at Mylor Harbour on Sunday at the start of the second Mylor my-tri to raise money for the village school and pre-school.
This year's event nearly doubled the amount raised last year with over £1,000 being split 50/50 between the two schools to buy equipment.
The event was marshalled by local people who gave great encouragement to all the athletes taking part whether they were dedicated triathlon participants or doing it just for fun.
The event started with an 800-metre swim from Restronguet Sailing Club ending at the yacht harbour. A circular cycle route then followed through Mylor village, Treluswell and returned for a run taking the Trefusis path through Flushing to finish at the yacht harbour.
Organiser, Falmouth firefighter Martyn Addinall, said the event was a great success and he was already looking forward to organising next years.
"We'd had a really rainy morning," said Mr Addinall "but it cleared up in the afternoon, although it was still a bit wet and many cyclists found the conditions a bit challenging.
"The first person out of the water was out in nine minutes. We are really looking forward to next year. I would like to thank all the competitors and to all our wonderful marshalls who gave them such encouragement really cheering them on and pushing them harder."
One of the surprises of the day was from competitor Paul Wickes from the Falmouth Marine Band who announced that it would be donating £200 to the total amount raised.
