Launceston u13s 17pts Helston u13s 17pts HELSTON youth RFC under 13s made the long journey to Launceston on Sunday for what was always going to be a tricky encounter with one of Cornwall's biggest clubs.
Helston made a very strong start with their powerful pack taking the game to Launceston who spent the first quarter of the game in defence. The first score came after a sustained attack from Helston who committed the defence with a succession of drives before sending the ball wide for winger Alex Parker to finish with some swift footwork.
The Helston forwards continued to press their advantage driving forward at every opportunity. The second Helston score soon followed from scrum half Cameron Davison jinking over from close in.
Launceston, however, were not done and exerted pressure of their own whenever they got the ball. A break away try late in the first half sparked them into a revival and a further two quick tries followed either side of half time.
Helston reacted well and tightened their game and slowly their forwards reasserted their dominance and pressed forward. In the last minute of the game Liam Wade powered through to score for Helston. It was left for Aaron Noakes to convert with the last kick of the game to bring the scores level and earn his side the draw they deserved.
