TRURO CITY COUGARS 1
HELSTON u9 6
HELSTON u9s got their first season of competitive football off to a flying start when they travelled to Truro on Sunday and pulled off a fine 6-1 win.
There was a slow start to the game as both teams appeared a little apprehensive and wary of each other, but Truro took the initiative and gave the Helston 'keeper Ross Atkinson some early work. He dealt with the early pressure as he commanded his area and produced some fine saves.
This gave the Helston Defence of George wake, Jordan Willey and James Williams the confidence to attack the ball and feed the midfield. Zack Bramwell had two early opportunities, but saw his shots go wide. Then George Wake picked up the ball and laid it off to Dan Turner who carried on his run, took on the 'keeper and made it one nil.
Helston attacked again with Ross Leathley giving the Truro defence a torrid time. His hard work paid off as he squared the ball to Dan Turner who calmly scored his second.
Truro didn't give up as they worked the ball forward and caught the Helston defence off their guard and pulled a goal back for 2-1. This only spurred on Helston as they replied with two more goals, one from Ben Turner and a great strike from Dominic Hannaford.
Helston went in 4-1 up at half time.
In the second half Helston showed great team work and the players were full of energy as they rampaged forward, Ben Turner scoring two more goals to complete his hat trick.
He saved the best until last. The Truro keeper took the goal kick and it fell to Turner who lashed it straight back into the roof of the net from 20 yards as Helston completed a well deserved 6-1 win.
