MABE: ST LAUDUS CHURCH: It was a busy weekend. Saturday saw the wedding of a young lady who had been brought up in the church and whose family are still regular worshippers. The church choir successfully sang a hymn in Welsh (after only three rehearsals) and guests were pleasantly surprised to be refreshed with glasses of champagne in the church at the end of the service.
Later in the day, a band of visiting campanologists rang a quarter peal and those out enjoying the early evening autumn sunshine were regaled with a beautiful tune rung on the church's set of fine bells.
On Sunday, St Laudus played host to friends from the Trenoweth and Ponsanooth chapels; from its sister church, St Michael's Ponsanooth and from as far a field as Oxford and Portsmouth. The service was a harvest celebration and the attendant youngsters and Brownies helped to bring the plentiful supply of harvest produce to the altar for a blessing. There was some fine singing and Father John delivered a humorous address, during which he reminded folk how wasteful we are with our food.
After the service the congregation adjourned to Mabe community hall where they enjoyed a pot luck lunch, to which everyone had freely and kindly contributed. The money raised from the auction will go to Action Water, the charity based in Redruth.
The church returns to normality on Sunday and all are welcome to its Service of Communion at 9.30am.
