The first photograph of a Penryn teenager who died in an horrific head-on collision at the weekend has been released by her family.
Shannah Birkett, 14, was a pupil at Penryn Community College. The talented student, who dreamt of becoming an actress, died alongside her 32-year-old mother Linda, a classroom assistant and Penryn Infant School.
They died when Mrs Birkett's Ford Ka collided with a Jeep Cherokee on the A38 at Glynn Valley, between Bodmin Parkway and Trago Mills. Shannah's 11-year-old brother Peter was a rear seat passenger in the Ka and suffered two broken legs and head injuries in the accident.
He underwent surgery at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. He is being cared for by his father, Geoffrey.
Following the news of Shannah and her mother's deaths, emotional tributes have been left on the Packet website.
They include comments from heartbroken schoolmates of Shannah, who has been described as "a lovely girl," known for her trademark curly hair.
Others have spoken of their loss. Hanna Lewis and Georgia Blackwell wrote: "Shannah, the school isn't going to be the same without you and your amazing smile."
