Nineteen students from Skofia Lokja Grammar School in Slovenia have visited Cornwall to conduct their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Gold expedition.
During their time they were hosted by Truro School as part of a developing exchange programme between the two schools. This followed a very successful visit to Slovenia in June by a Gold group from Truro School.
The 3 Slovenian expedition groups journeyed over 90km between Devoran and Padstow camping at Blue Hills, Polly Joke and Porthcothan along their route.
They also cycled the Mineral Way between Devoran and Portreath, took part in a surfing lesson at Harlyn Bay and a zip wire ride at Lusty Glaze near Newquay. Throughout, the group were most appreciative of the hospitality and friendliness of the campsite owners and those organisations providing the activities.
Whilst not on expedition the students were hosted in the homes of Truro School students. Some were taken swimming, shopping, and sightseeing whilst others visited the St Mawgan Vintage Rally. The visitors also spent a day in the school joining in with the Sixth Form assembly, lessons and a lunchtime lecture given to the Burrell Society by Dr Peter Allen on the Nature of Science.
Next June fourteen Duke of Edinburgh's Award participants from Truro School have been invited to Skofia Lokja and complete their Gold expedition in the Julian Alps.
