Cornwall College has been awarded the prestigious FA Charter Standard College' status as a kite mark for the football provision at its Football Development Centre on the Camborne campus. The College is the first in Cornwall to receive the award that recognises commitment to using football as a medium to deliver sport alongside raising standards of academic achievement.

Football development officer for Cornwall College, Karl Lines said, "This is testament to the hard work of our extensive coaching team, who in the past 3 years have helped take the college football provision from a student enrichment programme to a professional-style academy that runs extensive training. Our player development programme offers a wide range of support to our students including individual one on one goal keeper training, sports science facilities, fitness testing and sports psychology support."

Andy Mitchell of the Cornwall County Football Association said: "Cornwall FA would like to congratulate Cornwall College on achieving the Charter Standard. The award reflects the commitment of the College to developing quality football opportunities for its students. Karl Lines and the College also support the CCFA in delivering a range of development initiatives to the wider community including local schools and clubs. The College are the first in the County to achieve this level of award and should be proud of the status."

Cornwall College's Director of Sport Russell Lawrence added, "I am delighted that the hard work and professionalism of the team has been recognised in such a prestigious way. It underlines the quality sporting experience that Cornwall College provides for all its students in this particular case for football. Karl Lines deserves tremendous credit for the inspirational leadership he is providing for our football programmes."
