Camborne 28, Drybook 20
Camborne controlled a feisty encounter to deservedly come out on top in a game spoiled as a spectacle by the persistent rain falling at the Rec.
The home side took the lead with an excellent tenth minute long range penalty from the boot of David Mankee, before he converted lock Neil Stanleick’s try midway through the half.
Though the visitors then opened their account with a penalty the Cherry & Whites soon went further in front when No 8 Jordan Rose sent right wing Josh Semmens sliding in at the corner flag.
As half-time approached the visitors cut the arrears with a second penalty success but this was answered early in the second period with another fine Mankee effort.
Drybrook bagged a 50th minute lifeline with a penalty try but Camborne’s Mankee soon found the posts with a third penalty to give his team an eight-point advantage.
On the hour the home forwards bolstered by the presence of player/coach Damien Cook on as a replacement drove the visitors back more than 25 metres once again for industrious flanker Ashley Riches to this time bag the touchdown. Mankee knocked over the conversion for 28-13.
Drybrook thereafter frustrated the efforts of the Cherry & Whites to run in the bonus point try, although only a last ditch tackle halted wing Alex Ducker in full flight, before late on gaining a consolation converted score themselves.
