Falmouth's Princess Pavilions will be transported through time and space on Sunday October 7, when, as part of World Mental Health Day, they will be visited by Adrian Beckingham, aka The Man From Story Mountain. A full time professional storyteller for 11 years, his stories come from cultures as diverse as Ancient Britain, the Celts, Native Americans, Aboriginal Australians, and the Amazon Yanomami Indians. Adrian's extensive repertoire of over 100 stories are some of the oldest stories in the world dating back over 40,000 years of unending and unaltered oral tradition.

Adrian has told stories professionally around the UK, plus in Egypt, Australia, Bali, Hong Kong and Germany. His clients have included the Frankfurt Book Fair (the world's largest book festival), the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the National Trust. English Heritage, the Commonwealth Institute, the Empire Museum, plus over 200 schools and many festivals.

In the year 2000 he was the recipient of a One In A Million Millennium Award. These were awarded to only one out of every one million people resident in the UK, as recognition for exceptional service in a chosen field of helping local communities. Adrian's was in recognition of a Help The Aged storytelling project.

Adrian, who is also Chairman of Lighthouse Mind, an organisation running workshops in storytelling, creative writing, holistic art and healthy living for adults suffering from mental trauma or illness, comments, "Ever since the dawn of language stories have taught us powerful lessons about the world around us, about other cultures and times, and about ourselves. Stories have the potential to open locked hearts, heal wounded minds, and offer the possibility of new horizons. In many ancient cultures stories were used in this way."

He is author of Stories That Crafted The Earth, a collection of ancient creation stories from a variety of tribal cultures around the world, telling how the moon, the stars, the sun, the first trees and hills, mountains, rivers, animals and people were created. Signed copies will be available from him on the day, or the book can be ordered at all good bookshops.

Adrian says: "Native tribal peoples say that deep medicine exists within these stories, which are suitable for people of any age. The ancient task of these stories is to enter your heart and stay there, ready to help give you guidance and choose the correct path in times of trouble in your life."
