PLANS to provide much needed affordable housing in Mylor and Flushing have taken another step forward this week.
On Monday evening at a meeting of Mylor Parish Council, a list of possible sites for the housing were suggested to councillors by Nick Marsden, from Carrick district council.
Mr Marsden said that the parish, which includes Mylor and Flushing, needed 33 affordable homes and that they would be "100 per cent affordable for local people."
The list of suggested sites included around 10 sites for each village which Mr Marsden had looked at with colleagues at Carrick.
The site for Mylor included three preferred sites which were suggested by the parish council on land opposite Bells Hill, Saltbox Road and Penmorvah. In Flushing councillors agreed that a site close to Tregew Farm was the best option.
The council agreed that they need to look at the site themselves and find out if the land was available and find out who owns the sites.
Mr Marsden suggested that the council look at all of the sites and draw up a short list ready for a planning for real day which would invite parishioners to a public consultation where they could give their views on the potential sites.
Chairman Tony Andrew said: "These homes are needed, we have had letters from young people in both villages asking for affordable homes and now we are taking steps to make it happen."
Councillor Judith Whiteley also pointed out that the 24 homes for Mylor and nine for Flushing did not have to all go in one place and could be put on two different sites.
