A ten-year-old girl has cut her hair short to fundraise for children with complex medical situations.
Ebony-May Bees, from Hayle, cut off her hair to raise money for Children’s Hospice Southwest and has raised over £200 from friends and family.
“I feel really proud of her,” said Ebony’s mother, Jane. “She has always been a kind and gentle person, always sacrificing so her twin gets the better half, taking the blame and doing more than her share.”
“She is very protective and always gives to make other happy. I think her hair looks so cute,” Jane added.
Ebony was inspired by fundraisers she has seen having their own hair cut for charity and decided she would have a big cut. Her hair will also be donated to Little Princess Trust, who provide real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24.
Her money will go towards helping those at hospices like Little Harbour in St Austell, who offer short breaks and respite for families and children living with complex medical conditions. Many do not make it into adulthood.
“What Ebony has done is not only brave, but very generous,” said Amanda Masters, Community Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice Southwest.
“To be just 10 years old and thinking of how she could help other children is lovely. We are so grateful for the money she has raised by doing this,” Amanda added.
