Falmouth Harbour Commissioners have a vacancy for a new board member to join seven other commissioners in the management of the Trust Port of Falmouth, which has a turnover in excess of £1 million and a geographic area of about 16 square miles.
The role of a commissioner is akin to that of a company director; they are accountable for the proper exercise of the authority's statutory functions and provide proper oversight and direction in relation to the safety of marine operations and the financial performance of all activities.
Applications are sought from candidates with knowledge and experience of commercial shipping and port operations, preferably operating at senior or board level.
Residence within a reasonable distance of the port and familiarity with local issues in the region surrounding the port are highly desirable.
The post requires attendance at board meetings and sub-committee meetings and remuneration is offered.
Appointments are for a three-year term but more than one term may be served.
Falmouth Harbour Commissioner Captain Mark Sansom said: "Just as the uses of the harbour are diverse, our board of commissioners bring with them a wealth of expertise and experience from a diverse range of backgrounds and we will be looking for our new commissioner to make a valuable contribution to the ongoing viability and future prosperity of the harbour for the benefit of port users and the region."
