An opera singer is enjoying her final swan-song as landlady of a Gunwalloe inn after putting the business up for sale.

Angela Davy-Thomas, owner of the Halzephron Inn, has put the pub and restaurant on the market for the first time in 15 years.

Renowned for its fine dining credentials - having twice been awarded the Cornwall Dining Pub of the Year accolade by the Good Pub Guide, in 2001 and 2005 - the business is being sold by Savills, with offers sought in excess of £1.1million for the freehold.

The 16th century inn began life as a smugglers' and wreckers' haunt - a testament to which can still be found in the form of a smugglers tunnel that runs from the attic down through to the property and underneath the road outside, in the direction of the nearby cliffs. Even the name, Halzephron, refers back to darker times, meaning "cliffs of hell" in old Cornish.

Angela purchased the pub with her late husband Harry 15 years ago and since then has built up a strong reputation, with food-lovers flocking from far and wide. At the same time, the pub also boasts strong local support.

Guests are often serenaded by their host, who is a well-known operatic contralto and has performed across the westcountry and in the USA.

Angela has also directed various productions, including Carmen, the Marriage of Figaro and Madam Butterfly at the world-famous open air Minnack Theatre at Porthcurno, where she has also sung.
