Fears for the future of Helston Motor Show have been allayed with the confirmation of a new venue for the premier event.
The show, which celebrates its tenth anniversary next year, is moving to Wendron Football Club following a rift between the event's main organiser, Mick Timpson, and its former host, Helston Community College.
It had been feared the disagreement could spell the end of the road for the popular show, but just days after the story was first published in the Packet, offers of alternative venues were starting to come in.
Mr Timpson, who began the motor show back in 1999, said he was delighted an agreement had been reached with the Wendron club.
"I think it will be an ideal venue," he said. "They are used to coping with thousands of people, have some excellent facilities, including plenty of off-site parking, and are well situated for people coming from all the main towns around.
"We will be able to offer some new attractions and, hopefully, bring in even more people than before."
Mr Timpson said the show would follow the traditional format of motor-based displays, as well as a wide variety of other attractions including arena events, live music, dance, stalls, sideshows and much more.
"We shall pull out all the stops as it's the tenth anniversary," he said. "We want to make it even more special because of that, and because it's a new venue."
Local organisations have already pledged to continue their support for the show, among them Parc Eglos primaryschool in Helston, which has been involved with the event since its inception and has benefited to the tune of several thousand pounds each year.
The Packet will also continue its sponsorship of the show, which next year will be raising funds for Parc Eglos and for the Wendron club.
Peter Thorne, chairman of the football club, said committee members were delighted to be hosting the event.
He said: "It has been very successful over the last few years and we thought it would be a great shame to see it fold. A lot of people here have links with Helston, and with Parc Eglos school, and we felt strongly that we wanted to support the show. We have all the facilities here and can offer some new things as well. Hopefully, it will be a successful show and will become an annual event at the club."
This year's motor show took place as usual at Helston Community College on Father's Day in June.
The following month, the college informed Mr Timpson it was no longer willing to host the event, following a difference of opinion over the format of the show, including some aspects of the entertainment provided, as well as the name and date of the event.
Mr Timpson, who is the president of Helston Rotary Club and well known in the town, said he was grateful to the other organisations and individuals who had offered to accommodate the show, including Helston football club, the Trevarno estate and local landowner Bob Cowell.
"I was really pleased that people wanted the show to continue," he said. "I think it has become a Helston tradition and it was nice to know that other people felt the same way. Hopefully we can make next year a special one."
