The new Camborne-Redruth Hospital entrance, forming part of the Barncoose link road development, will open tomorrow.
The layout of the new road will involve the permanent closure of the existing hospital entrance and the creation of a new vehicular entrance about 200 metres south-west along the new road. This entrance will be reached off the new roundabout being constructed on Wilson Way. The pedestrian access will also be altered and will enter the hospital grounds from the new road at a point about 80 metres south-west of the existing entrance.
When the existing hospital entrance is closed, and while the A3047 works on Barncoose Terrace take place, the temporary vehicular diversion will be signed from the east, west and Illogan directions.
Traffic from Redruth will be advised to continue along the A3047, past the existing entrance, for about 800m to the traffic lights at Druid's Road, turn left at the lights and then left again at the first junction. Traffic will then go along Wilson Way (ignoring the left turn) as far as the new roundabout and take the fourth arm into the hospital. A mini roundabout will allow distribution to the various parts of the hospital.
From Camborne, traffic will travel along the A3047 past Morrison's and then turn right at the Druid's Road traffic lights. It will then take the first turning left, drive along Wilson Way (ignoring the left turn) as far as the new roundabout and take the fourth arm into the hospital.
From Illogan traffic will turn right onto the A3047 and then left at Druid's Road traffic lights, then as for other routes.
When the Barncoose link road is complete vehicular access to the hospital will be available from the new traffic light junction on Barncoose Terrace or from Wilson Way.
The Barncoose link road will create a new length of road linking the A3047 to Wilson Way and includes a new traffic signal junction on the A3047 at the site of the existing hospital entrance together with a new roundabout on Wilson Way.
The Barncoose link road forms the first stage in the proposal for a new east-west route as part of the CPR regeneration plans. It was also seen as important in its own right to encourage development of the eastern end of Wilson Way. The intention was to open up undeveloped land and lead to an additional 40,000 sq metres of industrial workspace with the potential to create around 950 new jobs once fully developed.
Since planning permission for the road was received the project partners say they are pleased that development of 11 business units on the new Carn Brea Business Park and two further individual units has taken place in the area.
