Travellers taking up an area near Asda, Penryn, are expected to remain there for at least another month.

A meeting was held yesterday at County Hall following complaints which had already been received from those people living nearby.

The travellers moved in near the supermarket after vacating another site nearby.

A spokesman for the county council said yesterday that the travellers were camped on the highway which currently ended at three spurs off a roundabout behind Asda.

No decision to evict was made but a further meeting would be held in a month's time once there was more detailed information relating to the development of the adjacent land.

A Welfare, Health and Education Needs Assessment also needed to be carried out.

David Hayhoe, assistant director - property said: "It is important that we take into account all the issues involved and are realistic in understanding that the land accessed by this road is shortly to be developed. Once the WHEN assessment has been made it can inform the next meeting in a month's time. In the meantime we will be discussing options with the travellers and seeking their agreement to vacate the site."
