THE Mining Snooker League division one has an unusual look after two weeks of the season.
Current leaders are Penponds, with nine points out of a possible ten, closely followed by Illogan Highway and, not so surprisingly, Redruth RBL.
Last week both Penponds and Illogan won 5-0, against Breage and Lanner respectively. Keith Hosking (38 break) and Cornie Piredda (31 break) helped to do the damage for Penponds at Breage.
Keith Philp made a 31 break in Illogan's victory over Lanner, who had won 4-1 in the first week of the season. Redruth RBL are showing consistent form with their second 4-1 victory, last week over neighbours Redruth British Rail. Jamie Read made a 36 break and Terry Kempe a 30, with John Winn taking the Rail Club's only frame.
Champions Clinton SC A returned to form after their first week defeat, beating Leedstown 4-1, with Steve Downing recording the highest break so far with a fine 72. Mark Tregenza (34) and Gary Bray (32) were also on the mark for Clinton.
St Day registered their second 3-2 win at Bell's Court, where Carl Boundy knocked in a 39 break for St Day and Dave Fox made 42 and an 18 clearance to the black for the home team.
Playing Place suffered their second 4-1 defeat at the hands of Clinton SC B, where Place's Martyn Bawden made a 40 break, but lost on the black to Chris Morford, who flamboyantly doubled it into the bottom corner.
Godolphin Club, in their first season back in division 1, beat Camborne Conservative, also newly promoted, 3-2. Breage, Leedstown and Playing Place occupy joint bottom place.
Four Lanes lead division two after two weeks, with nine points out of a possible ten. Last week they beat Porthleven 4-1 with only Dean Williams taking a frame for Porthleven after a tremendous battle on the black ball with Mark Shovel.
Penponds are in second place on seven points after beating St Day 4-1, with Steve Fisher making the current high break of 32. Possible favourites for the title, Illogan HI A, recorded their second 3-2 victory over their own B team, with Darren Jenkin making a 27 break.
After their first week victory in this higher division, Redruth RBL Youth were not so successful last week, losing 3-2 at home to Perranporth Golf Club.
Camborne Conservatives lead a much closer division thee on seven points after two victories, closely followed by Feock and Radnor Golf A, both on six points. Highest break is currently held by last year's holder, Jamie MacCuish of Feock, who made a 38 break in the first week.
Penponds have not yet played a match, having had two byes as a result of Park Bottom B's withdrawal before the season started.
Phil Condy made a 28 break in Redruth Club A's 4-1 victory over their B team.
