THE Helford River Children's Sailing Trust held a ceremony to name and launch a tender and two regatta rowing dinghies in remembrance of three special supporters of the trust.

The ceremony took place at the Calamansac Boathouse, Port Navas, where the John Sissons, the Peter Agnew and the Thilly Davies joined the fleet of four other rowing boats the trust owns.

Captain Phillip Thicknesse of RNAS Culdrose performed the naming and launching watched by children and teachers from Pencalenick School, who were there how vital the new boats are to the personal development of children with special educational needs.

The Regatta dinghies are specially adapted to enable rapid learning of rowing skills and were acquired with funds donated to the trust.

HRCST was formed in 1997 by founder John Green and over the years has built on its original concept of providing sailing for all primary school children in the area to supporting an extensive experience and training programme undertaken by adult volunteers and youth sailors who in turn support the school outings.

In addition to individual generous sponsors the scheme has been supported by numerous charities, businesses, government grants and local authority funding.

On this occasion the trust would like to thank those that have a special interest in their work for children with special educational needs, including; Bailey Thomas Charitable Fund, Clare Milne Trust, The Cornwall Community Foundation, Hedley Foundation, Kerrier's Community Grant, Lloyds TSB, Percy Bilton Charity, Phillip Nicholas Trust, John Spooner of Quester with Sportsmatch, The Tanner Trust, Mr and Mrs Jonathan Money of Taylor Money with Sportsmatch.
