ST COLUMB MAJOR 2
RNAS CULDROSE 1
RNAS Culdrose bowed out of this season's Cornwall Senior Cup with an extra time 2-1 defeat against St Columb Major.
The servicemen could have got something out of the game, but in the dying minutes of extra time they missed a penalty.
There was little to choose between the sides, but Culdrose always looked the more dangerous and created the better chances.
The home goalkeeper played a significant role in his side's victory and it was he more than anyone else who earned the home side their placed in the second round.
Culdrose had several gilt edged first half chances, the best falling to Chris Morris, but again the 'keeper came out on top in a one on one.
St Columb came more into the game in the second half in the 60th minute St Columb took the lead when Scott Taylor's corner found Simon Mitchell who headed in at the far post.
Morris had another good chance to level the scores, but the 'keeper made a terrific point-blank save.
The visitors levelled the scores in the 80th minute when Ian Pattison flicked the ball on for Chris O'Hare to bundle the ball into the net., but the tie was settled five minutes into the second period of extra time when from a quick break by Luke Worrall, Nick Trevena scored with a crisp .
With time almost up and Culdrose pushing the home side deep on the defensive, they conceded a penalty , but the normally reliable Pattison had his spotkick saved by the goalkeeper.
