Making their first appearance together at Wheal Martyn were Hevva - a group of dancers, musicians and singers who specialise in the folk traditions of Cornwall.
Although the group is newly formed, the members have between them many years experience in performing, teaching and promoting Cornish dance and music both in Cornwall itself and in festivals and events in the UK, Europe and further afield.
Taking their name from the shout used to alert fishermen to the pilchard shoals, the group's main costume is a faithful reproduction of nineteenth century Cornish working wear, including a unique set of gooks - the distinctive headwear worn by women in Cornwall. Each town or village had its own pattern and Hevva's collection contains more than a dozen examples ranging from St Just in Penwith to St Austell! The group will also be seen in more contemporary dress according to the occasion and the event!
Hevva offer displays, ceilidhs with a band and caller, Cornish troyls and workshops.
