Bournemouth 27, Camborne 26
Camborne came desperately close to upsetting the South West Premier table toppers as they outscored their hosts four tries to three to return to Cornwall with a richly deserved pair of losing bonus points.
The pumped up visitors showing a number of changes stunned Bournemouth early on with skipper Jon Drew’s try giving them a first quarter lead.
Matters got even better at 12-0 when flanker Phil Hinchley was mauled over on the half hour for fly-half Rhys Brownfield to add the conversion.
Though the home side then opened their account with a converted touchdown, the Cherry & Whites hit back immediately with another superb individual score from prolific wing Alex Ducker.
Brownfield, who has rejoined ‘Town’ from lower league St Ives, booted the extras and Camborne led 19-7 at the break.
Soon after the interval a penalty and a converted home dot down had Bournemouth back in the contest now only 17-19 down.
With all to play for the hosts went up a gear to grab the lead inside the final quarter with a converted try soon followed by a penalty taking their advantage up to 27-19.
Camborne would not lie down and hit back hard late on with a well worked try from centre Josh Semmens followed by a fine touchline conversion from Brownfield to cut the final whistle deficit to the narrowest of margins.
