Royal Marine Captain Damien Daisy' May from Culdrose will next week be presented with the Edward and Maisie Lewis Award for the most outstanding air sea rescue of the year by the Association of Shipwrecked Mariners.

He wins it for the work carried out by the Squadron during the Napoli rescue operation of the Cornwall, Devon and Dorset coasts.

In January this year, two Sea King helicopters were scrambled to rescue the crew of the sinking tanker off the Cornish coast. The skill, bravery, courage and teamwork of the Squadron has been recognised by the judges who have praised the Royal Navy team's efforts to successfully rescue the tanker's crew.

The award is due to be presented in London on Tuesday October 9.

As well as making the headlines in the Napoli rescue, 771 Squadron has had a busy year and is fast approaching its 200th job having saved or assisted 189 lives in the South West region during 2007.
