An insight to the life of author William Golding will be revealed by his daughter in a lecture at the Tremough campus, Penryn. On Friday October 19 at 4pm Judy Carver will be speaking about her father, who was best known for Lord of the Flies. The lecture is being staged by the University of Exeter's South West Writing Centre and hosted by the Department of English at Tremough.
William Golding was born in Cornwall in 1911 and lived near Devoran. During his long writing career, which began with Lord of the Flies in 1954, he won the Booker Prize and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983. William Golding was knighted in 1988. He retired to Perranarworthal and died in 1993.
Nick Groom, Professor of English at the University of Exeter's Tremough Campus says: "This special evening will explore William Golding's life and works, drawing strongly on his Cornwall connections. We are delighted that his daughter Judy Carver is giving a rare public lecture, and look forward to meeting local admirers of his work, as well as staff and students."
