Ladock CE School celebrated the formal opening of a Foundation Stage unit when the new class was opened by Mrs Sue Green, the Diocesan Director of Education, assisted by the youngest children at the school.

The class accommodates the recent intake of reception children and pre-school age children after their third birthday. Pre-school sessions run for 3 hours from 9 - 12 and are funded under the Government voucher scheme.

Mrs Joyce Jenkin, a qualified teacher with considerable experience of running classes for children of this age, has been appointed to run the class, assisted by Mrs Chris Smith, a teaching assistant.

The school is very proud of the high adult / child ratio. Mrs Jenkin said: "Early Years provision at this ratio is unique within my experience of working in both private and maintained schools. I am convinced that it greatly advantages the children's learning opportunities."

Over the last year, Ladock CE School has been praised by Ofsted as a good school, where pupils personal development is outstanding'. In addition the Church inspection found that The happy family atmosphere provides a safe and secure environment'. All the recent Year 6 pupils achieved Level 4 and above in their SATS.

Ladock is a small, friendly village school set in an idyllic location. The school is proud of the opportunities offered to the pupils, who are all learning French. A high percentage of the children learn musical instruments and the school plays a key role in the life of the village and the neighbouring church. The pupils have recently acquired a number of raised vegetable beds from which they harvested the fruits, and vegetables, of their hard work earlier in the year. The school environment has been further enhanced by the addition of a new pedestrian entrance, complete with fine Cornish hedges, which is part of the school's travel plan to encourage pupils to walk to school.
