AN application for a two-storey extension to be built on The Old Forge inn in Carnon Downs is being recommended for approval by Carrick's planning officers despite opposition from the parish council.
The Premier Travel Inn's application is for a two storey extension to provide an additional 24 bedrooms to the existing hotel and additional parking for 18 vehicles.
The plan has been opposed by the parish council which says the application is "contrary to the original conceptual planning philosophy for the site in that the height and mass of the building will now be far in excess of the original conceptual limits," is "obtrusive" and an "overdevelopment". There have also been four letters of objection.
The Carrick planning committee meets on October 17 to discuss the application.
