Camborne 29, Weston Super Mare 31
Camborne suffered a third home reverse of the season as the visitors staged a remarkable final quarter recovery to ease their relegation worries.
After Weston bagged an early lead with a converted score the Cherry & Whites took total charge to go in 24-7 up at the break with a try bonus secured.
First hooker Tommy Southworth peeled off a catch and drive to cross in the scoreboard corner and soon after fly-half Rhodri Mcatee ran back a wayward clearance kick fully 50 metres to go over under the posts. Alex Ducker converted for 12-7.
On the half-hour a superb charge down the slope by home No 8 Jordan Rose set up an opportunity for the ball to be moved wide for left wing Ducker to go over in the corner.
With the interval approaching the prolific Ducker dived in at the West Bank corner flag after scrum-half Taron Peacock had swept down the slope from an interception. Ducker added the extras from the touchline with a majestic kick.
The first half ended in a bizarre fashion with ‘Town’ denied a clear try by an illegal visiting intervention that ended with tempers fraying.
Early in the second period it looked like game over for Weston when replacement fly-half Jake Champion’s incisive break brought a fifth home try for full back Harvey Bell and a 29-7 lead.
On the hour a well worked converted score gave the visitors hope and unconverted efforts in the following minutes in the corner and a pushover from a close range scrum saw the home lead reduced to 29-24 going into the final stages.
With the last play of the game Weston piled on the pressure for their forwards to eventually drive over and the fly half held his nerve to land the decisive conversion.
