Camborne 48, Ivybridge 21
Camborne ended the South West Premier season in style with a comprehensive victory over old rivals Ivybridge at a windswept Recreation Ground.
Despite fielding a patched up side the Cherry & Whites responded magnificently to have the bonus point and the result in the bag by half time despite facing the wind and slope.
‘Town’ worked up a telling a five try 31-7 interval lead after early dot downs by centre Rhodri Mcatee and an emergency No 8 Declan Matthews effort converted by Rhys Brownfield set the tone.
Midway though the half a try under the posts from Harvey Bell easily improved by Brownfield gave Camborne an impressive 19-0 lead.
Before the break the prolific Alex Ducker twice coasted over for touchdowns with fly half Brownfield converting the latter effort whilst the visitors at last opened their account with a seven pointer.
The Cherry & Whites went completely out of sight early in the 2nd half when nicely timed passes from replacement wing Adam Long and Bell freed left wing Ducker who raced over in front of the West Bank for his hat trick.
On the hour full back Bell intercepted deep in his own half and beat the cover to dot down in the scoreboard corner following an 80 metre run. Brownfield’s superb touchline conversion made the score 43-7.
With young Adam Hendra on for his debut as a replacement lock Camborne then went in search of their 8th try of the afternoon. It was duly delivered in style by Ducker making it four for the day and a remarkable Club record overall haul of 40 for the season.
For a well beaten Ivybridge there was some consolation late on there was some consolation with a brace of final quarter converted scores.
