Truro City have appointed former Plymouth Argyle player and assistant manager Paul Wotton as their new manager.
Wotton has agreed a two-year deal to take over from Paul Wilkinson, who left the club to take over at Sky Bet League One club Bury on Monday, just two weeks after signing a two-year contract.
Wotton will lead the White Tigers through their first Southern League Premier campaign for four years, after Truro were relegated form the National League South last season.
Speaking to the club, Wotton said: "This is my first manager’s job so it’s exciting for me and a real positive step forward on my career path. It’s a Club with a great tradition in non-league circles and I’m looking forward to getting started."
Equally capable as a central midfielder or centre-back, Wotton made 491 appearances for Argyle during his playing career, which was split over two spells.
Wotton came through the youth system at Home Park and made 438 appearances for the Pilgrims between 1994 and 2008, scoring 61 goals.
He captained the team through two promotions in three years as Argyle moved from the old Third Division (now League Two) to the Championship between 2002 and 2004.
He called time on his Argyle career in the summer of 2008 and moved to Southampton, playing 61 times over two years at St Mary's Stadium before moving to Yeovil Town in 2010.
He stayed with the Glovers for 18 months before re-joining his boyhood club Argyle in January 2012, making a further 53 appearances before hanging up his boots in 2015.
Wotton remained at the club as first-team coach under new manager Derek Adams, before stepping up to the assistant manager role in 2018.
Both Wotton and Adams were sacked by Argyle in April 2019 as the club suffered relegation from League One.
Truro's move for Wotton completes a unusual chain of managerial movement, with Wotton taking over from Wilkinson who left to replace outgoing Bury boss Ryan Lowe, who is now in the hot seat at Plymouth Argyle.
Wotton's first match in charge will be Truro's opening pre-season friendly at home to Exeter City on Friday night (kick-off 7pm), before former club Plymouth visit Treyew Road on Tuesday (7.30pm).
