Shameless thieves' attempt to strike a perfume shop for the second time this week was thwarted by a member of staff who confronted them and told them to leave.

A bottle of Ariana Grande perfume worth £43 was stolen from Scentstore in Falmouth's Church Street on Tuesday at 12.40pm.

An incident was captured on CCTV footage released by the shop allegedly showing a man in a bucket hat snatching a box off a shelf before making a quick exit followed by a woman.

Today, the same couple came into the shop and were spotted by sales consultant Stefan Murrell, 27, who saw them taking items off a shelf and putting them in a bag.

He said: "I was just like 'wow, the cheek of it'. I couldn't believe they came in a second time, they probably thought they got away with it the first time.

"I just thought 'I'm not letting them take any more stock again, it's beyond a joke'."

Stefan confronted the pair who quickly left empty-handed.

Having worked on a shop floor in London where he was advised not to intervene in shoplifting incidents that could often turn violent, Stefan was not intimidated, although he did admit "it was quite an adrenaline rush".

He said: "I didn't feel like my safety was at risk, I didn't feel intimidated, not by these two characters."

Tuesday's shoplifting incident has been reported to police and they have asked members of the public to contact 101@dc.police.uk quoting crime reference CR/063525/19 with any information.
