Okehampton 28, Camborne 14
Camborne could not hold on to a half-time lead as they slipped to a disappointing defeat on a hot afternoon in Devon.
The Cherry & Whites started brightly and when skipper picked up from a close range scrum to take play to the home goal line flanker Jordan Nicholls was on hand to dive over. Rhys Brownfield’s conversion made it a seven point lead.
Still inside the first quarter a sweeping ‘Town’ handling move down the left flank saw full back Harvey Bell make good ground before passing inside to wing Lewis Thomas who went over near the posts. Fly half Brownfield added the extras to double the advantage.
Before the break the home side got into contention opening their account with a brace of tries and a conversion to cut Camborne’s interval lead to a narrow two points.
A penalty early in the second period saw Okehampton in front for the first time 15-14 and from there though they strove hard there was no way back for the visitors as the home side added a further 13 unanswered points.
