Camborne 30, Bracknell 26
Camborne recorded a third successive home South West Premier win by racking up an unanswered 17 second half points to see off the spirited challenge of Bracknell.
Despite facing the slope the Cherry & Whites took an early lead with a Rhys Brownfield penalty but the advantage was short lived as a corner try for the visitors made it 3-5.
‘Town’ soon had their noses in front again when a period of pressure ended with Harvey Bell going over in the turnstile corner and still inside the first quarter full back Bell showed his strength to cross again this time on the opposite flank for a 13-5 lead.
Bracknell had an effective driving maul and this brought a converted try on the half hour to get within a point.
As the interval neared a quickfire brace of converted touchdowns by Bracknell gave the home side a mountain to climb trailing 13-26 at the break.
Fly half Brownfield began Camborne’s second half response with a penalty but it was not until the hour mark when Bell fed No 8 Jordan Rose to romp over near the posts that the revival continued. Brownfield’s regulation conversion cut the Bracknell advantage to only three points.
With all to play for in the closing stages the Cherry & Whites won a series of close range scrums from which skipper Rose eventually picked up and plunged over in front of the West Bank for the bonus point try. Brownfield duly completed the home come back striking a fine conversion from a wide angle.
