Weston-super-Mare 14, Camborne 10
Camborne put up stout resistance against promotion chasing Weston-super-Mare before going down to a narrow defeat in Somerset.
The home side dominated the opening exchanges but resolute Camborne defence ensured the lead was only 7-0 as the game reached the half hour mark.
Before the break the Cherry & Whites opened their account to cut the deficit to only four points with Jake Champion’s regulation penalty.
With all to play for in the second half Weston stretched their lead early on courtesy of a second converted try.
Inside the final quarter replacement lock Neil Stanleick was driven over from a close range lineout and centre Champion’s well struck conversion deservedly took ‘Town’ into bonus point territory.
Late on the battling visitors gave Weston some anxious moments before time ran out.
The Cherry & Whites now look forward to the visit of South West Premier leaders Barnstaple this weekend when a large crowd is expected at the Rec (kick-off 2.30pm).
