Exmouth 27, Camborne 21
Camborne conceded the South West Premier double to relegation threatened Exmouth after narrowly failing to hold on to a lead hard earned in a battling third quarter.
The Cherry & Whites had to settle for a losing bonus point and now face a must win game in a fortnight at home to Ivybridge if they are to avoid a tense finale to the season.
On a heavy pitch the Cockles took an early 5-0 lead but Camborne quickly edged in front with a well worked try from centre Rob Gurnett improved by David Mankee.
Soon after a penalty made it 8-7 in Exmouth’s favour and with the wind at their backs the home side increased their advantage before the break with a converted score.
Early in the second half Exmouth appeared to be taking charge of proceedings when a 3rd touchdown made it an imposing 20-7 lead.
‘Town’ though roared back into the match twice driving over for catch and drive touchdowns in quick succession. Hooker Tommy Southworth got the first and replacement prop Andrius Zacharovas the latter, with fly-half Mankee converting both efforts to give the Cherry & Whites a slender single-point advantage.
Exmouth though were not to be denied and a converted try sealed their valuable victory inside the last quarter.
