A restaurant in Falmouth is giving people the chance to 'pay forward' meals to those in need after setting up a new lockdown takeaway service.
Restaurant MINE, based at The Old Brewery Yard off High Street, reopened its kitchen at the start of this month and is now selling takeaway meals every Thursday to Sunday, which can also be bought for a stranger.
Co-owner Katy Mulheir said: "Since we closed our doors a few weeks ago we’ve been aching to do something with the resources we have to help those in need.
"We’ve thought long and hard about how to do our best by our neighbours as safely as possible."
This has resulted in the kitchen re-opening earlier this month for what she described as a "social not-for-profit project" to bring people chef-cooked meals to their doors.
Each day the team cook two dishes - including one vegan/vegetarian option - that can be pre-ordered before 3pm, for delivery between 4pm and 6pm.
People can buy a meal for themselves, for someone they know who is self-isolating or they can 'pay one forward' by paying the cost of a meal that goes into a pot for someone who needs it.
"We are working closely with local charities to serve meals to the elderly, the homeless and NHS staff," added Katy.
The restaurant is currently rotating causes, dropping at the hospitals for NHS workers a couple of times a week, with food also sent to Falcare and it has received calls from local authorities about vulnerable people who would benefit from meals.
This week's meals feature chicken Caesar salad and sauteed potatoes or three bean salad with gremolata on Thursday, homemade focaccia and spiced beans with the option of added confit duck on Friday, cook at home fresh pasta with arrabbiata sauce or bolognese on Saturday and roast lamb, chicken or squash on Sunday.
The daily options change weekly and can be found on the business's website restaurantmine.co.uk
Orders can be made by calling 01326 211073 and paying over the phone, or anyone collecting dishes direct from the restaurant can pay contactless.
All meals are served chilled to be re-heated at home.
