A popular beauty spot between Falmouth and Truro is to reopen for longer hours to allow more people to visit safely when holidaymakers arrive.

With the change in government guidance expected to lead to a flurry of bookings from holidaymakers wanting to visit Cornwall from this Saturday, the National Trust will be opening Trelissick's parkland, woodland walks and garden earlier, from 9am daily, as of next Monday, July 6.

This is to help as many of the Trust’s supporters as possible - both locals and tourists - to enjoy a visit safely over the summer period.

However, in line with other National Trust properties and other tourist attractions locally, visitors must still book online in advance, in order to keep the number of people there at a safe level.

Jon Cummins, visitor experience manager at Trelissick, said: “We were one of the first visitor attractions to open in Cornwall on May 26 for the outdoors, followed quickly by the garden.

"It’s been fantastic to welcome back our visitors, especially our locals - the response has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive of all the steps we’ve taken to ensure everyone can experience a relaxed and safe visit.

"Some of the comments we’ve received have made us quite emotional, visitors are genuinely delighted to be back with us and have obviously missed the garden and its walks so much.

"We are all so pleased that people are choosing to visit Trelissick as their place to go after lockdown. People are such an important part of our place, to hear their laughter and voices once again in the garden and parkland.

"Although the current experience is different than it used to be and we’ve increased guidance for visitors, we’ve done everything we can to create an enjoyable visit for everyone who books to visit."

The café is open daily, with a simplified takeaway menu serving visitors hot drinks, cake and ice creams, and the shop is now open Thursday to Monday each week. Toilets are also open as normal, with enhanced cleaning regimes in place.

However, for the moment Trelissick’s second-hand bookshop, gallery and house all remain closed.

Tickets for Trelissick and many other National Trust places are released online every Friday morning for the following week. It is free to book for members and there is a temporary reduced price of £8 for visitors, which includes entry to both the woodland walks and the garden.
