THE number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall has increased in the latest figures.
As of Sunday night there had been 889 confirmed cases, up two on the previous day.
The Packet reported on Friday how confirmed cases of the virus in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly jumped by almost 300.
However, rather than marking a spike in cases, it was because figures now include not only tests done in hospitals and public test centres, but those done privately, by post, in care homes and at mobile testing centre, therefore presenting a more accurate view.
There have been no further deaths in hospitals related to coronavirus, with the total for Cornwall remaining at 91.
The total rose by one last Thursday in what was the first increase since June 2.
However, overall deaths were at 203 in the most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics, which has been collating totals for hospitals, care homes and the wider community.
Today's NHS England figures show that, across England, a further 15 people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 28,904.
Patients were aged between 42 and 93 years old. All patients had known underlying health conditions.
Their families have been informed.
There were no further deaths recorded in the south west as a whole.
In today's coronavirus news:
After the disappointment of having to cancel its three Rainbow Runs in Newquay, Exeter and Bristol this summer, the fundraising team at Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) decided to give supporters of the charity the option to take part in the event virtually.
The closure of Helston's Meneage Street will continue for the third planned week, despite businesses warning they had been "badly affected."
At the same time, outside security has now been put in place on the road barriers "due to several incidents of abuse and intimidation to the volunteers over the last two weeks."
A document designed to set out how local outbreaks of coronavirus in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly will be managed has been published.
The 41-page Local Outbreak Management Plan (LOMP) sets out how different organisations and agencies will work together if there is an outbreak of Covid-19 in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
