Money has been given for a new building at Newquay Airport that will eventually be used as part of the Spaceport Cornwall project.
Cornwall Airport Limited said it was delighted to have been awarded funding from the Government’s Getting Building Fund, to build a new property that will have direct airfield access.
This will be pre-let to Cornwall Council, who will use it as the Spaceport Cornwall Integration Facility.
The airport has refused to reveal the amount that granted, with a spokesperson telling the Packet: "Unfortunately we can’t comment on the allocation of funding at this time."
Other organisations in Cornwall that received grants from the fund today include the Hall for Cornwall in Truro, which received £1.5 million towards its ongoing redevelopment, and Goonhilly Earth Station, which was given just short of £1 million to look further into space artificial intelligence.

The new airport building will be shared with Virgin Orbit and other launch partners, which require highly secure accommodation in close proximity to the aerodrome.
Cornwall Airport said that, as part of a wider development project to diversify income, the property would not only provide jobs growth but also important revenue to the airport.
Graeme Scrimgeour, commercial estates manager at Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: "The funding is fantastic news for the airport - it will enable us to further diversify the on-site activity and provide an important long-term revenue stream as we implement our recovery strategy and look to an exciting future for the business.
"We’re seeing strong demand for high quality premises on the airport site, and this funding will provide a welcome boost to our ability to deliver facilities that can support job creation and investment in Cornwall."
Melissa Thorpe, from Spaceport Cornwall, said: "By enhancing the existing asset at Cornwall Airport Newquay we can offer the space industry additional operational capacity, supporting new jobs and creating positive economic growth for Cornwall."
