Climbing equipment found near a cliff ledge at The Lizard led to the coastguards being called over fears someone may be in trouble.
The alarm was raised just before 10.45am today, with Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team sent out to investigate.
The caller had found the unattended equipment near to Crane Ledges and was concerned over what they may have happened.

However, after a search of the area it was discovered that in fact there was nothing untoward and in fact the answer was rather more simple.

A coastguard team spokesperson said: "The team carried out a local area search to find the equipment and found it was in use by a local climbing group, who were out of sight at the base of the cliff."
As a result the team stood down and returned to the coastguard station.
