Wendron United manager Jack Greenwood was happy to secure a much-needed three points at home to Callington Town on Saturday – even if the performance wasn't quite there to go with it.
The Dron went into the game on a run of three successive defeats to Camelford, Launceston and Mousehole, but prevented a fourth with a 3-1 win over the Pasty Men at the Underlane.
Wendron fell behind midway through the second half through Andre Rodyukov's strike, but were on terms in the 70th minute when Scott Palmer scored a penalty after he had been brought down.
The Dron completed the turnaround when Jack Stocker's shot was parried for Harry Roberts to score, before Stocker teed up Cameron Wheat to score the third goal two minutes from time.
"We made hard work of it," Greenwood said. "We played really, really well on Tuesday night against Mousehole and were a shadow of that again on Saturday. First half we were really poor – our energy was there but our quality wasn't good.
"But second half we did up it a little bit, they scored first and we reacted to that and changed shape and were back in it not long after with the penalty. Once we got that goal I felt there was only going to be one winner."
Greenwood added: "Had you said to me after the Launceston game that you're going to get a really good performance against Mousehole and three points on Saturday I would have taken it, so I can't complain."
Going a goal down has been met with concern in the Wendron camp lately, with another often quickly following, but there was no sign of that this time as the Dron picked themselves up and went on to score three times in the final 20 minutes.
"We showed good character to come from a goal down and we dug in deep when we weren't playing great and we still found a way to win.
"It was encouraging, we showed some good quality at times and the most important thing is we've accumulated another three points."
The victory coincided with the return of goalkeeper Ethan Elwell, who was a welcome sight between the sticks for the Dron.
Elwell had joined the club on loan from Mousehole at the start of the season but returned to Trungle Parc following an injury to first-choice 'keeper Cory Harvey, with Adam Peters filling in on a temporary basis for Wendron.
Elwell missed the final part of Saturday's game after taking a knock, but Greenwood was pleased with what he saw and also singled out Stocker for praise.
"[Ethan] was excellent for us," Greenwood said. "He did actually have to come off with a knock. He bravely came out and took a knock to the head and was a bit dizzy so we finished the game with ten, but he was excellent.
"Jack Stocker was superb yesterday [Saturday]. He really pulled us through and it was just a very dogged performance and took it upon himself to make sure we weren't going to lose another game."
