Cornwall is to get a new primary school in north Cornwall.
The new two-form entry school which will have up to 420 places for children is set to be built on land next to secondary school Newquay Tretherras.
It will be built on land which is previously home to a 1950s building for the secondary school which has been demolished. That building has already been replaced with new facilities at Newquay Tretherras.
The new school, which is known as Newquay Primary Academy, will have two storeys and include classrooms, a main hall, kitchen, food-science area and library.
A planning support statement issued with the planning application states: “The proposed Newquay Primary Academy is a two-form entry new build primary academy providing 420 pupil places over two storeys, an outdoor physical education pitch, tennis and netball courts.

In a statement on its website it states: “We are proudly part of the Cornwall Education Learning Trust and share a site with Newquay Tretherras secondary school. This means that, from reception through to sixth form, our learning community shares an approach to education which focuses on achieving excellence and ensuring that each child achieves their potential.
“Our philosophy is that stimulated children will thrive and develop a lifelong love of learning. It is for this reason that we base our teaching around providing a ‘proper’ childhood, where learning takes place both in and outside the classroom. We want children to feel part of Cornwall’s outstanding natural environment and proud heritage and culture. This is why education at Newquay Primary Academy is brimming with exciting activities and outings designed to enhance every child’s learning experience and sense of place.
“Newquay Primary Academy pupils are proud ambassadors for our school and our values, both historic and present. Our pupils are given a strong moral compass. They are taught to understand the importance of community cohesion and making a positive contribution to our unique community.”
