The number of deaths relating to coronavirus has risen in Cornwall again.

Just over a week after the last hospital death, a further one has been recorded - again at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

The patient died on Thursday, November 19 after testing positive for coronavirus and it has been noted in today's figures from NHS England.

The total number of hospital deaths in Cornwall now stands at 96, with 70 of them recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and 26 at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust.

It will add one further death to Cornwall’s overall coronavirus death toll, which on Tuesday had risen to 214 in the Office for National Statistics figures, before this death occurred.

Nationally, a further 316 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 38,112.

Patients were aged between 28 and 102 years old. All except five - aged 64 to 96 - had known underlying health conditions, NHS England has said.

The dates of their deaths ranged from June 3 to November 20 and their families have been informed.

Of these, 29 people were from the south west.

The latest Covid case information for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has also been published this afternoon.

In the most recent update, as of 4pm today (Saturday) Cornwall is shown to have 46 new cases.

The website states that the total number of cases in the local authority area now sits at 3,482.

There have been 483 cases recorded in the seven days lead up to November 16. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete. This represents a weekly rate of 84.5 cases per 100,000 people, with the rolling rate dropping over the previous few days.

The UK has had 19,875 new cases reported today, bringing the total to 1,493,383 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

Cherilyn Mackrory is one of around 15,000 people across the country who have signed up to test the effectiveness of the vaccine being produced by US company Novavax - including at least 200 volunteers in Cornwall.
