Residents and visitors alike can enjoy spotting over 70 festive illuminated reindeer in shop windows across Truro thanks to an initiative from Truro BID and funding from the Truro Town Deal.
The illuminated reindeer which come in three different sizes (stag, doe and calf) is one of the first projects to be delivered under Truro’s £750,000 Accelerated Fund award from the government’s Towns Fund, announced in September.
The Towns Fund is aimed at unleashing economic growth potential, with a focus on regeneration. Truro is one of 101 UK towns selected to bid for an additional investment for up to £25 million. The Truro Town Deal Board is currently developing projects and an investment plan for submission in January which will outline ways to regenerate and transform Truro.
Simon Hendra, Member of Truro Town Deal Board, said: “These beautiful reindeer are a shining example of how the Government’s Towns Fund is brightening up our city, along with the new stunning cathedral installation at Trafalgar Roundabout. We hope they bring a welcome boost for shops, businesses and residents in Truro this Christmas season after such a challenging year.”
Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager added: “We were delighted to receive the Accelerated Fund award from the Government’s Town’s Fund to light up some of Truro’s business premises.
"We decided that having a festive illuminated item was another attraction for our great little city. Reindeer were chosen as we thought they’d be loved by all ages and are a brilliant way to bring some festive cheer to Truro this year, and for future years.
"Most of the reindeer are in the ground floor windows of premises, so it’s a simple although effective way for businesses to attract residents and visitors to look at their window displays whilst reindeer spotting.”
Details of where you can find the illuminated reindeer across the city are on www.visittruro.org.uk. There will also be posts on Visit Truro’s Facebook page during the festive season.
The reindeer are on loan to Truro businesses by Truro BID who will be collecting them in the new year so they can be used to light up premises for future festive seasons.
Along with the illuminated model of Truro Cathedral on Trafalgar roundabout the illuminated reindeer are a new addition to Truro’s City Centre Christmas Lights scheme. Truro BID fund and install the remaining City Centre Christmas Lights via the BID levy contributions from around 400 Truro Businesses, along with donations from both Lionel and his wife Carol Knight.
Truro’s Christmas Lights will be illuminating the city until the twelfth night on Tuesday 5 January 2021.
Truro Businesses who would like an illuminated reindeer for their premises window until the new year should contact: alun.jones@trurobid.co.uk (there are only larger stag reindeer available now).
