A flurry of new shops opening in Helston has continued this weekend with the arrival of Fox In The Henhouse.

The intriguingly named shop is the creation of Paula Jewells, who used to own the similarly colourful Lime Green Submarine in Meneage Street just over four years ago.

Before that she had a shop in Wendron Street, later taken over by the Bridal Studio before that too moved, to Coinagehall Street, and which is now a base for JP Fitness Cornwall.

Paula has now returned to this street, but across the road, to where The Spotted Rhino most recently traded.

She said: "I've missed Helston and I've missed the people. It's just something I enjoy doing."

It was this that prompted her to give up her office job of the last few years and go back into retail, with Paula describing it as "just one of those years" that made her think about what she really enjoyed doing.

Fox In The Henhouse will be offering a range of gifts, along with some clothes.

She has recently been selling clothes online and is now offering these in a clearance sale, as the same range is already provided elsewhere in town.

However, she plans to stock a small selection from a different supplier going forward.

The main focus of the shop, however, will be the gifts, which range range from small 'pocket money' items for children, to larger gifts and a some non-branded toys.

There will also be cards, bath bombs and soaps, and she plans to expand on this depending on demand.

"The longer we're here and depending on what the demand is for things, we can look at stocking different products to expand on that," she said.

Today (Saturday) marked the first day that she opened the doors, and while she is still in the process of getting the shop ready people can still pop in to pick up bits, with more stock being added each day.

She then plans to have a proper launch once the signs are up and the outside of the shop is painted.

Normal opening hours will be Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5pm, or slightly later if busy, but currently Paula is also opening on Sundays, in the run up to Christmas and while she continues to work on the shop.
