It's not just humans that are saved by the dedicated volunteers of the coastguard service.
Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were packing away last night, having closed the road at Swanpool Beach and the footpath to Gyllyngvase due to dangerous sea conditions.
It was as they were preparing to leave, having subsequently reopened both when the conditions abated, that a dog came running up and almost jumped into the heavy sea.
A spokesperson said: "While we were packing our kit away, a dog came running from the car park area to the beach and was caught by a team member as he was about to run into the sea.
"We had a look around the car park to see if there was an owner anywhere, while another team member dialled the number on the collar."
It transpired that the dog had come from near Maenporth all the way to Swanpool, on his own, and somehow avoided the traffic, without anyone spotting him on the way.
"The dog and very relieved owner were reunited and we then returned to station," added the spokesperson.
