Due to ongoing problems Falmouth Town Council has said it has had to close Gyllyngvase beach toilets.

The town council made the announcement on it website yesterday apologising for any inconvenience and saying it hoped to open them again as soon as possible.

Falmouth Town Council clerk Mark Williams said the problem was due to an external drain issue.

"So we need to wait for SWW and/or Cormac to effect/approve a repair.

"We are advising people to use the nearby Castle Beach and Swanpool Beach facilities as an alternative."

In a statement on its website the council said: "Due to ongoing problems we have had to close Gyllyngvase beach toilets. The nearest public toilets that will be open are Castle Beach & Swanpool. We are so sorry for any inconvenience caused.

"We are working very hard to try and get these problems sorted asap."

Back in January town clerk Mark Williams said that the use of public toilets in Falmouth during the lockdown was being kept under review after it was revealed that some people were not using them safely or hygienically.

Notices had been put up telling people they had to be responsible or the council would be forced to close them.

He told councillors at a meeting of the Finance and General Purposes Committee that if they weren’t being used properly then they would have to pause their use.
