CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save two historic fishing lofts have increased their target to the full £300,000 required after raising over £230,000 on Crowdfunder in just over a week.

The old buildings are at Cadgwith Cove, used by the fishermen landing at the harbour to store their gear and process their catch. They also house a popular art gallery and two shops selling fresh fish, while in the summer the hugely popular fish barbecues are held outside them.

However, all three are owned by different people and came up for sale around the same time.

One has already been sold, but the community has been offered first refusal on it, while the other two remain on the market, and now the village hopes to buy all three – but it needs help.

Posting on the Crowdfunder page the organisers said: "It is just possible that we can now buy these buildings outright just with crowdfunding donations. What an amazing thing that would be !

"We are all astounded at how much love there is for Cadgwith and for preserving the future of our fishermen.

We are so grateful and humbled with the strength of public support in reaching our original £100,000 target [22 Feb], and then only three days later, smashed our £150,000 target with £172,000 of donations on Feb 25.

"Thank you to every single one of the 5,125 people who have given us a donation so far.

"The fishermen have renewed hope and a spring in their step. They are beginning to believe that this threat to their future can be removed, and that they have a future fishing from the cove, which is what they all love to do.

"Let's make it happen."

The fundraiser has received national attention after first being featured in the Packet last week.
