AN 'appalling and 'dreadful' graffiti redesign of the front of a popular Falmouth bar has been thrown out by planners after it was described as both .

Star Bars and Clubs who run Mangos in Church Street had submitted a graffiti redesign of the upper floors of the club. The design includes three self adhesive vinyl displays showing corrugated steel design, with graffiti logos, applied to the first floor windows.

But Cornwall Council have rejected the proposal on the grounds that its design, materials, colour, siting and illumination would have an adverse impact upon the setting of the Falmouth Conservation Area and nearby listed buildings.

When it was originally brought before the Falmouth Town Council's planning committee the application was described as both "appalling and 'dreadful' by town councillors who recommend refusal as the top floor design was totally unsympathetic to the conservation area.

Cllr John Spargo said at the time: "It's difficult to be polite about this one, it's just an appalling proposal. Not quite sure what they are trying to do the upper floor but it looks appalling.

"It does not improve the conservation area or have any positive effect on it. I understand they want to advertise their business downstairs but upstairs i don't know what they think they are doing, it's awful.

He added: "It looks like Falmouth was bombed last week and this is how they have done a temporary repair."

Cllr Marcella Morgan said the design did not fit in with Falmouth whatsoever, also describing the top as 'just awful' and saying: "It just looks dreadful."
