Companies across West-Cornwall have been investing in infection control technology as the easing of lockdown restrictions is allowing more businesses to reopen.
With more and more businesses across Cornwall inviting people back inside, sanitation products and technologies are becoming an increasingly common investment.
Two companies based in west Cornwall have made the long-term investment in UV light-based infection control tech from fellow Cornish firm UV Clean Light.
Popular Cornish pasty baker Philps Pasties has tried to take the longer-term view by re-opening in a way that attempts to safeguard staff today and hopefully protects the business against any subsequent Covid-like disruption by purchasing bought two air sterilisation units from lighting specialist UV Clean Light.
Sam Philps, Manager at Philps said: "At Philps we take the health and safety of our staff extremely seriously.
"We’d heard about the benefits of UV light technology but assumed that such tech was well out of reach of smaller businesses.
"In fact, this is not the case, and once we discovered that a Cornish firm was one of the leading providers it cemented our decision to invest.
"Certainly, our staff feel more reassured by the units.

"They sterilise against Covid – and any variants - but they also work against cold and flu germs which can disrupt smaller organisations.
"We see this as a long-term investment – we truly feel that consumers will prefer to do business with organisations that can prove that they’re taking staff welfare seriously after the huge and damaging impact of Covid."
Keith Wyatt, Managing Director, UV Clean Light said: "We were delighted to support Philps on this project – theirs is a name that’s known throughout the county and beyond.
"Covid really demonstrated how behind the curve UK businesses are on infection control matters.
"Philps is among those businesses spearheading a new era of responsibility and infection control action."
As well as Philps, Cornish luxury resort and leisure complex Una St. Ives has also invested in preventing any internal outbreaks by purchasing two air sterilisation units.
James Hemming, Resort Director, Una St Ives, said: "Gyms have been under close scrutiny in terms of health and hygiene and we wanted to ensure that our facility was as well protected as possible for re-opening.

"We have invested in ceiling-mounted UV-C light fittings which, when activated, eradicate all harmful microbes from surfaces.
"These lights are switched on between gym sessions and are controlled remotely from outside the room while the gym is empty.
"This offers an extra level of hygiene over and above any manual cleaning.
"Additionally, we have installed air sterilisation units to eradicate airborne germs.
"These units run all day while the gym is occupied.
"Obviously, Covid has been a main driver for this investment, but we feel that infection control will become a real differentiator in future months and years.
"Gym-goers will want to know that their health and safety is being managed professionally and robustly."
Keith Wyatt, Managing Director of Cornish-based UV Clean Light said: "Una St Ives is really leading the way here.
"The pandemic showed that the UK’s infection control protocols were simply not up to scratch, and it is those businesses taking such measures seriously that will earn the trust and loyalty of consumers."
