Lesly Heather is ready for her first Ultra Marathon, "The Wall" on Saturday, June 19 which will see her run 70 miles along Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle to Newcastle in an effort to raise money for primarily The Sepsis Trust as well as Falmouth Hockey club.
Mrs Heather, the Welfare and Publicity Officer for Falmouth Hockey Club is undertaking the challenge in memory of Chloe Rideout who sadly died of Sepsis in 2018. Ms Rideout had been Mrs Heather's hairdresser and a close family friend, as such the two had a close bond.
Mrs Heather explained why she is taking on the enormous challenge, she said: "I am running this on 19th June in memory of Chloe to raise awareness of Sepsis and to raise some money to help The Sepsis Trust to try to prevent such a sad and terrible loss as Chloe's."
"It is an opportunity for Chloe’s family to focus on an event in a positive way and I hope in some small way to help them with their loss."
Over the past two years, she has been steadily increasing her running range, training even included a running holiday to Greece. Her successes there gave her the confidence to try longer distances and since then she has completed her first marathon, running the coast from Looe Bar (Helston) to Kynance Cove and back with Freedom Running at The South Point Trials.
Her training has gone up another level again since September 2020 by gradually increasing her mileage and in March this year began working with Warren Renkell, a regarded Ultra Runner from Wales.
Now just days away from the big event Mrs Heather is hopeful that she will perform well at the run: "I have now completed my longest run, 31 miles and have started my taper. I feel relatively confident that I can complete this challenge, I couldn’t have trained much more and I am looking forward to the run." She said.
